Over the past several decades, we have seen huge technological advancements in the robotic world. However, the development and use of robots has remained to be a controversial topic and has been widely criticised by employment and religious groups, conspiracy theorists, some members of the public, and many more.
Humanoid robots are a type of robot similar to humans in appearance–head, hands, and legs–and mimic human behaviour like walking. Developed to connect with humans and the surrounding environment, they are widely used as receptionists, entertainers, and personal assistants, to perform dangerous, repetitive, or tedious tasks, and testing out experimental functions like movement.
Most people only talk about the negative side of humanoid robots, but what are its advantages? Below are some of them:
1. Highly Mobile
Unlike some robots, humanoid robots are highly mobile. They come with a pair of legs, not wheels, enabling them to move in different directions with ease, assume different positions like kneeling, bending and make rather complex movements such as climbing and descending stairs. Therefore, humanoids can switch between various tasks in your business or home, and perform several human-like tasks.
2. Watch and Learn
Humanoids don’t come completely programmed to perform every task. Humanoids utilise the internet and databases to search for information and self-educate. Additionally, with the help of motion capture dots or sensor gloves, machine learning software on the robot makes training possible and easy. By observing how you perform various tasks like gardening or dusting, humanoids process, learn, and master your movements. This makes them highly adaptable and an all-around employee.
3. Highly Flexible
Citing their adaptability, mobility, ability to use human tools, and a relatively low energy usage among others, humanoids have a wide range of uses. Designed to mimic human behaviour, certain robots are ideal for heavy-duty industrial tasks such as deep sea and space exploration, furthermore mining. They have also been used to take care of the sick and elderly, operate vehicles and equipment, and many more.
4. Safety
Humanoids can perform tasks dangerous to human workers like defusing bombs, eliminating safety or health concerns in their working environment. Humanoids are also designed to work alongside humans without raising any safety issues.
Despite the negativity and criticism from some groups of people, humanoid advantages by far outweigh its inefficiencies. Robots have positively impacted our lives in many ways. It’s now time to embrace the future.
